Arriving in Boothbay Harbor

Driving distances: By car, Boothbay Harbor is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from downtown Portland, 1 hour and 30 minutes from the Portland Jetport, 3 hours and 15 minutes from Boston and 7 hours from New York City.

Directions: When arriving in Boothbay Harbor, you will pass Hannaford’s supermarket on the right, go straight through a set of lights and follow Oak Street up the hill. As the road starts heading down again (after Oak Street Provisions, the small red shop on the left), take a left on McClintock Street. Follow this short street to the T at the bottom of the hill, take a left on Townsend Avenue and then an immediate right onto Granary Way (just before the yellow Mung Bean shop). Back Bay Cottage is the tan/gray shingled building with dark green shutters just in front of you before the road curves to the right (you will see the sign out front). On the left there is parking reserved for the “Portside” unit.  Two cars will fit in this spot, and for short-term parking you may also use the “Guest” spot that we share with the other units.  Portside is on the ground floor of Back Bay Cottage. Airport & rental car information: The nearest commercial airport to Boothbay Harbor is the Portland Jetport. Its website contains practical information including a list of rental car companies at the airport.

There is also the option of taking a Concord Coach bus from Portland ($15 one-way/$23 round-trip) or from Logan Airport ($33 one-way/$58 round-trip) or South Station ($29.50 one-way/$53 round-trip) in Boston to Wiscasset (about a 25 minute drive from Back Bay Cottage) if you have someone to pick you up in Wiscasset.  Alternatively, it would be about $30-$40 for a taxi ride into Boothbay (call Bobo’s Coastal Cab at 207-380-4182 or Wicked Good Taxi at 207-563-6225, be sure to reserve in advance).  It is preferable to have a car for at least part of your stay in Boothbay in order to explore the region, but strictly speaking it is not necessary as you can walk to restaurants, shops and markets from Back Bay Cottage and take boat trips in the summer.

Click here for information on taking the coach to/from Wiscasset but note that the map on this site does not show the correct location of the stop.
